In Sew Cool School (a.k.a. Kid’s Club) at Cate’s Sew Modern, kids are given the freedom to either work on their own personal projects with guidance from our team of sewists or join in on group projects that will teach them how to follow detailed instructions as well as master basic sewing techniques. Your child may want to work on his/her own quilt, learn to make a tote bag, personalize a pre-made T-shirt, take part in any imaginable textile project, or come up with a completely new idea of their own. Wherever their inner vision takes them, we provide the structure, space, support & attention that your child needs to find their creative voice. Oh, and there are a few snacks along the way as well.
Since we work so intimately with each child, if your daughter or son is new, we require a one-time, one hour private lesson for $60 before integrating them into Sew Cool School. This allows us to best understand each child’s interests and imagination as well as facility with the tools of hand and machine sewing. It also hastens the bonding between teacher and student, allowing the child to focus more on gaining comfort with classmates upon starting the program.
For these reasons, please call (203.421.6853) or stop by the shop to discuss enrolling further.
PLEASE NOTE: If your child participated in Kids’ Club over the last school year or Kids’ Camp this summer, it will not be necessary to book a private lesson before enrolling.
Because the maximum capacity for Sew Cool School is only six children per afternoon, you must reserve space ahead of time, regardless of package. Drop-ins are accepted whenever space allows.
Machine rentals are available at $5 per day. Not all projects require machines for an appreciable amount of time, but any money spent on rentals can be applied toward purchasing an Eversewn machine from us.
