When: Saturday, February 22nd, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Ages: 16+
Teacher: Cate
Fee: $49+ materials
Prerequisites: Basic quilting skills. If you have a finished quilt top to work with, you’re ready for this workshop.
For all those baby quilt tops you’re churning out, why send them out to a long-armer? You’ve come this far, now learn to quilt your own quilt sandwiches on your domestic machine. It’s less expensive. It’s faster turnaround. On smaller quilts (and pieced pillow tops, too!) it’s a slam-dunk. And it’s empowering as all get-out!
In this class, come with (or buy, at 15% off, from us) a walking foot, a darning foot and if your machine does not drop its feed dogs with a switch, also the specialized plate to cover your feed dogs. You will learn to practice these skills on small muslin quilt sandwiches so that you can go home and use these skills on your own quilt sandwich. It should be basted together either with fixative called 505 or with curved basting safety pins. If you don’t know how far apart the safety pins should go, try placing your spread-out hand anywhere on the quilt top; at any location. You should note that your fingers/palm will touch two pins at least.
You will have learned two methods of quilting on your domestic, some tricks to audition different designs in different places, and also how to successfully bind your quilt at the end using a special ruler called the CutRite Bind Up tool, which we stock here as well.
