Description
Runners Up! Stones, Circles, Sky and Trees: Sundays, 12-4, $49. All classes taught by Cate Boeth. Take all four as a flight? Save over 10%, only $175!
Four runners: take as a series or pick the one(s) you like! And they’re wrapped up with a bow — I mean — with a class on finishing small quilting projects! You’ll have four gifts for the holidays as well as a way to finish many more UFOs to give away or keep as well!
Some benefit from a time-saving ruler, some just a sharp rotary cutter and straight ruler, but all will give quick satisfaction. Plan to do all pre-cutting ahead of time to maximize our time. All benefit from our 15% off on all supplies bought for the class. What’s better than that?
Oh, a word on sizing: The sizes are to start with. A wonderful aspect of runners is the ability to use borders, invisible or otherwise, to customize width and length. This will be explained and taught in each class.
Rolling Stone Block Runner
10/24: 12-4pm, $49
Perhaps you saw Kaffe Fassett’s “Gathers No Moss” block of the month program whiz by this spring/summer and missed it. Or noticed all the blocks are the exact same, or just didn’t want to make so many of them… Here’s a great alternative: A Rolling Stone runner, using only three of blocks! Finish in a day!
The Rolling Stone Runner is so bright and happy – it reminds me of Summer. Can’t you just picture the toppings for a taco or baked potato bar displayed on the center of each of these blocks? You can even make them to match your Fiesta ware! All you need is six fat quarters, three ten-inch squares, and border and binding fabric. The “rolling stones” are made with the Creative Grids Square on Square Trim Tool for 4 and 8-inch finished blocks.
Finished Size: 15 in x 40 in
Jennifer Sampou Reversible Sky Ombre Runner
11/7: 12-4pm, $49
A wonderful beginner project on how to take advantage of the gorgeous ombre and gradient fabrics coming from such superstars as Jennifer Sampou. This one is double-sided to boot! It only needs three-four colors per side. We love the cool cool and warm options, but you can do complementary colors on each side or a combination of two holidays! Stop by to see the Sky fabrics or we can kit them for you!
Finished Size: 15 in x 72 in
Two Pathways to the Drunkard’s Path
11/14: 12-4pm, $49
Have you noticed how many winning quilts at the Modern Quilt Guild featured curves and circles lately? It’s time to put down the fear and declare yourself fearless. Remember our motto, “No Regrets,” right? That said, I will teach two versions of The Drunkard’s Path Table Runner: the pieced one by Karla Alexander, which uses the “Circle Savvy Ruler” and truly teaches you to place curves, and this one by Terry Atkinson which cuts quarter circles, using the Creative Grids Round Up Tool with 5-inch squares and an appliqué method. I promote the true piecing so you can put the fear of curves behind you, but if you simply can’t bear it, I can also show you the speedier “cheater’s” approach as well. Hey, sometimes you just need speed (the temporal version).
Finished Size: 15 in x 40 in
Crazy Christmas Tree Runner
12/5: 12-4pm, $49
This technique is the most versatile quasi-random piecing technique I’ve ever met! From here, you can move to any improv project and make it totally yours, from design on!
This tree? It’s a little bit holiday, little bit fall, a little bit a celebration of nature. But the most important thing is the skill it teaches, Karla Alexander’s incredibly versatile “Stack and Whack” methodology, which gives your work a free-wheeling, playful feel and works with pieces as small as 10×10. Yup, a great layer cake project.
Finished Size: 16 in x 43 in
Lastly: What you’ve all been waiting for, not just the “Runner People” …
Finish That Quilt!
12/12: 9:30-4pm $80 to a la carte participants, $70 for those taking all four runner classes in a flight. Finish That Quilt! purchased here.
Open to all, not just attendees of runner classes, this invaluable class teaches you how to finish your runner or ANY quilt. How many patchwork tops (aka UFOs) do you have in your closet? Get rid of that pile for more gifts this season!
You will learn, in this six-hour class, how to make a quilt sandwich, do — not one, but two — quilting techniques: free motion and walking foot. THEN, finish that baby up with learning the best practice on mitered binding creation.
Expect to finish one runner-sized quilt or learn the skills you need to finish a larger one from home, using a smaller “stunt double.”
