We are looking for one or two candidates for each job opening. Part of our mission at Cate’s Sew Modern is to extend opportunities to those just starting out. However, that does not mean we won’t consider people with experience already; we welcome you!  But we’re very aware that many recent graduates are struggling to get started in this difficult climate. Starting as interns, many of those hired with little to no experience go on to gain more responsibilities, and there is nothing but opportunity to grow.

Marketing Intern

Job Description

Cate’s Sew Modern is looking for an enthusiastic person to gain firsthand experience on the ins and outs of marketing for a small business.

At first, this job opening will begin as a collaboration with the current Social Media Manager / Video Producer. The intern posts to several social media platforms daily, and creates marketing campaigns tied to specific store goals. In order to succeed, the job requires research and analysis. Additionally, a basic understanding of photography and video editing is very helpful.

This is the perfect position for a recent college grad or someone who is looking to explore a new and exciting field!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafting bi-monthly newsletters, updates, and sales emails
  • Creating comprehensive social media campaigns
  • Managing seasonal promotions
  • Producing photograph and video content for our website, social media, email, etc.
  • Help staff in-store as needed
  • Post videos and photos to Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube semi-daily.
  • Create promotional materials.
  • Research best practices for social media and engagement.
  • Run marketing campaigns and build brand awareness.
  • Understand the market and perform competitive analysis.
  • Record quality video and audio for multiple platforms.
  • Research best video recording and promoting practices.
  • Edit all content independently.

An ideal candidate would have the following qualities:

  • A passion for sewing and the fabric arts!
  • A drive to learn and absorb new information
  • A prior background in social media or marketing
  • An enthusiastic and positive approach to work and assignments
  • Ability to work as a team and individually
  • Familiarity with photo-editing software, Canva, WordPress, Etsy, and Square.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube.
  • A willingness to be trained and work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written communication; able to write copy independently.
  • Self-directed and creative.
  • Takes initiative to learn and grow all the time.

Full and Part-Time Retail Associates

Job Description

Are you looking for a job to nurture your creative spark, not to mention get the first access to fabulous new fabrics? Look no further than Cate’s Sew Modern! We are currently hiring for full-time and part-time retail associates.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing exceptional customer service to sewists of all experience levels and backgrounds
  • Assisting in packaging online orders
  • Comfortable with pattern and color matching
  • Routinely lift and reorganize bolts of fabric
  • Accurately measure and cut fabric in yardage and half-yardage
  • Working at least one weekend day, and occasional holidays as required.
  • Updating, listing, and maintaining stock levels on our e-commerce platforms.

An ideal candidate would have the following qualities:

  • A passion for sewing and the fabric arts!
  • Excellent people skills
  • Ability to multitask AND single-task efficiently
  • A quick learner with a drive to learn and absorb new information
  • An enthusiastic and positive approach to work and assignments
  • Ability to work as a team and independently
  • Familiarity with Canva, WordPress, Etsy, and Square
  • Ability to lift up to 20-30lbs regularly
  • Ability to stand for the duration of your shift.
  • Clarity in written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable with technology.
  • Full of initiative and ideas for improvement.
  • For this job opening, full-time availability is a major plus.
