At Cate’s Sew Modern, we regularly offer series/day-length classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students (e.g. School of Sewing I and II, Garment 101, Intro to Quilting); as well as a variety of workshops focusing on specific garment, bag, or quilting patterns, or on specific methods/skills (i.e. foundation paper piecing); and much more! All supplies can be purchased in-store for 15% off.

Cate’s Sew Modern offers classes and workshops for all ages and skill levels. Sewists young and old gather together, to learn all about sewing and quilting in our bright and spacious shop. Our basic roster of classes:
- School of Sewing I – This is our foundational class, seven three-hour sessions. It kicks off with our well-known class, “Meet Your Maker,” where you learn to make friends with your machine! Please call the shop at (203) 421-6853 to be put on a waitlist for either the day or evening class
- School of Sewing II – Part 2 of our foundational class. If you have completed School of Sewing and want to continue doing steadily more challenging projects, this is for you! Please call the shop at (203) 421-6853 to be put on a waitlist for the class. It rotates between a day class (11-2pm) and an evening class (6-9pm).
- Intro to Quilting – Always wanted to quilt but never knew where to start? Have your attempts left you frustrated? This is the class for you! Build good habits and techniques from the start. We’ll walk you through finishing a quilt block from fabric to finish in this series for quilters to be.
- Garment Workshops – Itching to make something you can wear? We’ve got you covered. With classes ranging from simple to more intricate, we’ll sew through some fan-favorite indie patterns and teach you the basics of garment construction.
- Bag Workshops – Never be intimidated by a bag pattern again! In this workshop series, our instructors will cover everything from cork to heavy-duty interfacing, and how to use basic techniques to your advantage in any bag pattern you may come across. We’ve picked out some of our best-selling patterns to teach you!
